Will Ospreay's Hometown Shout-Out: The Romford Recorder’s Role in His Wrestling Journey

At the AEW All In media scrum, Will Ospreay was asked by a reporter from his hometown newspaper, the Romford Recorder, how he felt following his victory. Upon realising the Recorder was there, Ospreay leaped up shouting, "YES SON!"

He then recalled how the paper had helped publicise the shows he and his fellow "backyard wrestlers" put on at the Royals Youth Centre in Romford.

"We were like, 'how are we going to get people through the door?' (And then I thought), 'I know—the Romford Recorder!' You guys actually publicised my first-ever wrestling match, like ever. There were photos in the paper and everything."

The coverage wasn't all smooth sailing, as Will detailed:

"There was a geezer whose parents didn’t want him to do any more wrestling, and because he wasn’t allowed, he wasn’t meant to be on the show. But we didn’t tell his parents, and he was on the show. It was the front page of the paper, so his parents were fuming."

The Romford Recorder went on to provide RCWA with plenty more coverage over the years.

A great moment for local media that play such an important role in publicising British pro wrestling.
